Where the Walickis Live and Minister

The Walickis live in Ciudad Victoria, the capital of the state of Tamaulipas. Ciudad Victoria is at 1,053 feet (321 meters) above sea level. It is located about 290 miles (470 km) north of Mexico City on federal highway 85. It is about 180 miles (290 km) from Brownsville at the southern tip of Texas. It is also very near the Tropic of Cancer. The population is about 260,000.

Ciudad Victoria is one of Mexico's more modern and prosperous cities It is a center for distribution of agricultural products from the surrounding region and also for manufacturing. It is also a popular tourist destination, offering a variety of outdoor activities and historical and cultural attractions.

Before moving to Ciudad Victoria, the Walickis lived in Huauchinango. They planted a church in the city, and several others in the surrounding area. The city of Huauchinango is located in the northern part of the state of Puebla. It is situated 190 km from Mexico City by the federal highway 130 in the state of Puebla. It is located approximately 4,000 feet above sea level in the midst of the Sierra Madre Occidental Mountain range.

Huauchinango is surrounded by lush green pine forests and coffee plantations. The climate is temperate compared to the lower elevations. Coffee and flowers are important agricultural products. Huauchinango is full of contrasts. Like many parts of Mexico, the difference between rich and poor is startling. On one street you will see large colonial houses, painted in bright pastel colors with bougainvillea growing behind wrought iron gates. In another section, where the roads are muddy ruts, you will see shacks built from odds and ends.
